Sunday Shoe Day! Not Rated Peep-Toe Ankle Strap Platforms

I thought I'd show you a pair of my shoes each Sunday! There were basically too many to put into one post...

Today I am showing you a pair of peep-toe ankle strap platforms by Not Rated. I got them at a second-hand boutique for $24.99. I also got another pair at the same time that apparently came from the same previous owner! I did have to put in another hole on each strap because they were too loose. They came with heel cushions but those came off pretty fast!

I just love the detail on the heels!

And the flower print is so delicate and adds to the vintage vibe!

I can also wear them for salsa (I did last Friday) because the bottom is plastic and although it has a little design, it's still quite smooth. And of course the heel is complete and not a sling back.

More shoes next Sunday!

Hair!

I've recently started a new hair routine. My hair is thin and my scalp is really dry, so I found that washing it every day helped my scalp a lot (itchiness and stuff, y'know?). That of course dries out my hair, but when I put on conditioner after shampoo it makes my hair too light and fluffy, and therefore really hard to style.

Soo I've started putting in conditioner at night and then braiding it. Not a lot of conditioner because I was worried about greasiness, just enough so that when I wash my hair in the morning and brush it, it doesn't have nearly as much breakage (which I've also been having a lot of trouble with) and is soft. I know you're not really supposed to wash it everyday, but this seems to be working for me! And with less breakage I can continue to grow it out better! :)

Books I'm reading

Good day all!

I thought I'd do a post with some books I've finished and some I'm currently working on. With books I go through times where I read everything in sight, and then others when I barely want to read the back of the cereal box.

I just finished up Embassytown by China Mieville. Intense but so good! There's just so many interesting concepts in this book and it's very alien (which was good as it is a sci-fi!). I did find it weird though that the narrator was a woman because I didn't really feel she had a gender.

Next I read some quicker to read books. I've been meaning to read these since my friend recommended them in high school. They were the first and second books of the Janie Johnson series, The Face on the Milk Carton and Whatever Happened to Janie? They were pretty good at describing the anxiety that comes with dual family situations and the idea that you can have more than one person with the labels mom and dad.

Before I even started the Mieville book I had started two others that I'm now trying to work on. One is American Gods by Neil Gaiman which is generally good but is a big hardcover that's hard to bring places. The other is another recommendation, a Darkness Forged in Fire by Chris Evans, which throws you into a world without an introductory character to help you learn the ins and outs. It's slow going (also a massive hardcover) but I'll get there.

Aaaaand to make matters worse, a friend of mine just gave me the first of the Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett, whom I just love even though I've only read one of his books (shhh). So hello further distraction as I work my way toward the final Terry Pratchett and final Tiffany Aching book.

P.S. I have created a Shelfari account to keep track of these things as to let you guys know what I'm up to in the book world! I'll slowly add books that I've read throughout my life and that way you can see my favourites!

Treats I've Tried Lately

Good evening all!

This is a post describing some of the weird or yummy things I've tried in the past month or so. I'm in Southern Ontario, so some of the British or American things are new and interesting!

First off something new: Warheads sour worms and sour cubes.

Now just so you know I don't like sour things. Or spicy things. I have the palette of a 5 year old, really. But I liked these as a gummy treat, so that tells you how NOT sour they are. The flavours of the cubes were fun to try and guess (it tells you on the packet tho).

Next, the Milka bars.

So good! They're from Switzerland I think. And they are just really smooth chocolate with yummy fillings. They have so many different types too! I only tried two, but they have kinds with fruit cream filling, or cookie filling, or biscuits, or other types of chocolate. I tried the caramel, which is basically like a reaallly good Caramilk bar, and the Oreo, which tastes like eating a reversed Oreo (with more filling than cookie!). I just went to their website and although the don't offer Canada or the United States as options for viewing their website, their slogan is portrayed in English and I just enjoy that they use the word tender as their main descriptor. It makes me feel fuzzy inside.

My selected fudge was Chocolate Amaretto from Brittles N More. I'm not quite sure what I expected this to taste like- heavier on the coffee maybe? Anyway, it tasted quite similar to regular chocolate fudge. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but not what I expected.

My favourite chips right now are the Ruffles Sour Cream 'N' Bacon. But that didn't stop me from trying the Marmite chips! I didn't know what Marmite even was until a few days ago. They had an almost musky flavour that I'm fond of.

Last of all is a beverage: maple syrup lemonade. It's made by a local company called Hitch Hiker. Not my most favourite thing ever. It was interesting, but I could only really handle a sip of it. So sweet! And just unfamiliar as a taste for drinking. (Their regular lemonade is really good though!)

And I just finished off a vegan chocolate cheesecake at our favourite cafe (coincidentally vegan and vegetarian based). I think I'm set for the night. Good night!

Tho-oh-oh-ose Summer Niiiiiiiights

Hello all!

It's a hot early September night and I've parked myself in front of the fan for the evening.
I'm watching a 1951 movie called No Highway In the Sky starring James Stewart, Marlene Dietrich, and Glynis Johns. I've seen Stewart and Dietrich in other pictures and of course but never together in the same film.

And I'm just SO loving how everyone talks! There's so much contrast between Stewart's comforting, easy way of speaking and Dietrich's more precise, feminine voice. And again Glynis is so sweet sounding! The movie in general is slow moving and just begins to touch on subjects like being ostracized for having disagreeable ideas, and coming to terms with death and the life you've lived up until then. But I could listen to them talk forever!

I'm starting to see everyone gear up for Autumn, but it's so hard for me with this summer weather - it just doesn't feel right! I'm still having Coca Cola chilled in the freezer to slush form, and tomato salads with parm and feta, and cantaloup with cottage cheese for dessert. There's not enough leaves on the ground to start with the hot chocolate (but I bought some the other day just in case!).

I did however go through my nail polish today and chose which colours would be good for the Fall. I've never really done this before, I've always just put on whichever colour I felt like that day (which I still encourage if that's what you do!). But I'm giving it a try and I'll post the colours I chose in a products post later this week! For today I chose a gorgeous teal that is still kind of bright and makes me feel like a merperson, and who doesn't want that?

The movie is over now and I'm gearing down for sleep. Good night!
